When you think of valuable liquids, you might imagine high-end perfumes, luxury wines, or even rare liquors. But there’s one liquid that outshines them all in terms of value: scorpion venom.

Specifically, the venom from the deathstalker scorpion (Leiurus quinquestriatus) holds the title of the most expensive liquid on Earth, with a price tag that can reach up to $39 million per gallon. This jaw-dropping figure isn’t due to the rarity of the scorpions themselves but rather the incredible potential of the venom they produce.

Why is Scorpion Venom So Expensive?

The extraordinary cost of deathstalker scorpion venom comes down to its complex composition and the immense difficulty in harvesting it. Scorpion venom contains a unique blend of proteins and peptides, some of which have shown promising results in medical research. These components are being studied for their potential to treat various serious conditions, including cancer, autoimmune diseases, and brain tumors.
